About the Unit Converter

Every conversion here works by routing through one metric base unit per category — meters for length, square meters for area, liters for volume — so any unit can convert to any other in the same category with a single multiplication against that base, rather than needing a separate formula for every possible pair. Area and volume conversions aren't simple linear scalings of their underlying length unit: since area is length squared, converting square meters to square feet multiplies by (3.28084)² ≈ 10.764, not by 3.28084 directly.

To use it: pick a category with the buttons — length spans meters through miles, area covers square meters through acres and hectares, and volume covers liters through gallons, quarts, pints, and cups — then enter a value and its starting unit, and every other unit in that category updates simultaneously below. For example, entering 1 hectare instantly shows 10,000 square meters, roughly 2.47 acres, and about 107,639 square feet, all computed from the same underlying value. Switching categories resets to a sensible default unit so you're not left converting a length figure as if it were a volume.
