About the Epoch & Timezone Converter
Unix time counts the whole seconds elapsed since midnight UTC on January 1, 1970 — the "epoch." It's the standard internal representation for time across operating systems, databases, and APIs because it's a single number with no timezone or calendar ambiguity, unlike a formatted date string. Software converts it to a human- readable date only at the point of display, applying whatever timezone the viewer needs.
To use it: paste a Unix timestamp (in seconds) into the input, pick a target timezone, and see it converted into a local date/time, an ISO 8601 string, and a relative phrase like "3 days ago." For example, the timestamp 0 converts to exactly midnight, January 1, 1970 in UTC, while 1000000000 converts to September 9, 2001 — famously the day the Unix epoch counter crossed one billion seconds.
